Providing the greatest structural strength
Experts in swimming pool shell construction
A1 Shotcrete works on both residential jobs and major commercial works. Our expert and experienced team is equipped to tackle the most complex project to create durable concrete pile facings and contiguous pile lining walls.
A1 Shotcrete has been building pool shells since 2014. Working all over the UK, we have been involved in the construction of many hundreds of pools. Infinity pools, deck-level pools, freeform shapes, geometric shapes, indoors, outdoors, our experience across both residential and commercial projects is vast. Our reputation for excellence has made us a preferred partner to many architects, swimming pool companies and developers.
Each project commences with a careful assessment of the site, from the site conditions to the structural requirements, including all the necessary logistics to complete the work. The equipment used for sprayed concrete allows us easier access than that used for traditional concreting – a real advantage in challenging environments where space is compromised, such as inner-city locations.
And when time means money, we can make a real difference. Pneumatically applied high grade sprayed concrete allows us to overlay a contiguous bored retaining piled wall quickly and efficiently. At up to 10m3 per hour, working with sprayed concrete is significantly faster than traditional poured methods. We can also offer options on the finish, which provides even greater versatility:
- Sprayed to follow contours of piling
- Sprayed finish
- Cut and flash finish
- Cut finish to line and level
- Float finish

Starting with a review of the pool plans, we will conduct a site assessment, check access points and confirm timelines. Where necessary, we advise on any structural issues or challenges and ensure that every detail has been considered before our team arrives on site.
Once excavation has been completed, A1 Shotcrete takes control of the next phase. The installation of precision shuttering and steel work creates the framework for the overall size, shape and depth of the pool. This reinforcement provides structural integrity, maximum strength and load-bearing capacity. Once this stage is complete and signed off, our shotcrete team takes over. Concrete is sprayed at high velocity directly onto the prepared reinforced surface. The shotcrete compacts immediately to produce a strong, watertight and durable finish – walls and features such as steps are quickly and accurately formed. Final touches, such as smoothing surfaces, are then completed in preparation for the next stage of construction.
We conduct our own quality control procedures to ensure the shotcrete is correctly cured to achieve its full strength. Once all aspects of the shell have been inspected, the next stage of construction – rendering, tanking and tiling – can go ahead.
